Creativity, which everyone says is important, necessary and something to be nurtured, is nevertheless ambiguous. Is there any way of awakening the creativity inherent in everyone, from children and youth all the way to adults? The very first national event on creativity, the 2009 Seoul Youth Creativity Summit & Festival, is preparing mime, video, food, theatre, performance, and other diverse workshops.
① Greening: Environmental Design Workshop
Greening is a small card that promises to protect the environment. This is a workshop with designer Yang Ji-yoon, who won first place at the international ‘Green Earth’ design competition with this simple and honest design. Through gathering together small promises one at a time, a grand and beautiful expanding spectacle will emerge.

② Following Movement 1: Animation Workshop
“Animation is not art of moving drawings, but drawings of moving art.”
In this workshop, director Jang Ho-jin, who studied visual arts at UC Berkeley, focuses on the essential element of animation—motion—while experimenting with the digital foundation and sound that draws together motion, the subject of motion, the relationship between motions, and the speed of motions.

③ Following Movement 2: Animation Workshop
School for Designing a Society members, Jeff Glassman and Lisa Fay are theatre artists performing experimental theatre and mime, and visiting professors Evergreen State College and the University of Illinois. Putting together small and delicate movements, look into life’s various joys, angers, sorrows and pleasures and find a little bit of real life in one piercing, compressed gesture that explosively overflows with language.

④ Book Play / Storyteller’s Book Performance
An experimental workshop that borrows from role-playing games to create a new sort of book play. Participants become imaginary characters from books, and experience the exciting fun of creatively interpreting the missions of stories, helping storytellers who have taken on the guise of the main characters.

A Workshop that finds the meaning and methods of sharing creativity with other people while enjoying, downloading, sampling and remixing works through the creative commons license, the CCL. Through this process, simple samples you make—guitar leads, drum bit, and raps—are revitalized by another person’s hand, and participants from amateurs to professional musicians experience the joy of cooperative creation beyond the limits of space and time.

Nakayama Haruna is a designer and chef at Studio Node. She studies the relations and interaction between diet and culture and tries to connect it to art. She reflects the results of her experiments to the exhibition or catering, and realizes artistic cooking in cooking workshops with kids and the disabled.

We’ve invited the activists of 3Sisters Adventure Trekking, who work to raise female mountaineering guides in the interest of bettering the public welfare and social position of Nepalese women.
